Novel Summary (from the webnovel): There is a VR game called “New Communicate Online” (aka. “Nekomimicat Offline”) which, due to being filled with bugs, is in a sense quite popular. One of its diehard fans, Souma Sagara, ends up inside the game by the power of some mysterious artifact. He was surprised by the sudden occurrence, but this was the world of a game that he knew inside out. Exploiting a multitude of bugs and using all of the game’s tricks against itself, he became known as Strange Swordsman Souma.
jonathanasdf, who is new to ND but a veteran translator who has done good work on BT in the past, will be joining us to translate this project. And considering he talks so much about gaming on our IRC, we’re confident he’s the right person to be bringing this content to you all :p.
For people on Reddit who have been following Lonehare’s work on the webnovel of the same series, we’ve been collaborating with him to make all the terminology consistent and and transition as smooth as possible. You can consider this project opening the official baton pass from him to us. And yes, to be clear: we are translating the published novel version. So even if you’ve been following the webnovel translation, we encourage you to read from the beginning, since the novel version is more polished and also comes with extra content (including an omake manga, which has already been typeset and uploaded!)
jonathanasdf has already posted up the prologue and a chapter (for those of you who know about the webnovel, this corresponds to around 10 webnovel chapters), so get to reading! And when you’re done, don’t forget to take the time to thank the translator for his efforts :).
(For those of you still “puzzled” about the hint, remember that you had a treasure map. And what do you look for on treasure maps? X’s, of course. Take all the X’s on the right crossword – and there were a lot – and find the corresponding letters on the left. Go in numerical order of the clues, remembering not to reuse X’s, and the puzzle spells out SEKAIGAME. Voila! Here’s a graphical view of the puzzle solution.)
